Nyokki means grow in Japanese, and that's exactly what these Nyokki Pets do! These little pet plants are adorable and original and they are hand made in Japan from glazed ceramic. They are shaped like eggs with fabric legs. Filled with a growing media and rye grass seeds, these Nyokki pets are easy to grow - seeds germinate and grass grows to full height in less than two weeks. At first this grew great but then it went downhill once it was a few weeks old. The grass basicly dried out and died completely dispite being watered and tended to as instructed. Eventually had to toss the insides out. As for putting bows in, the pictures on the web look like its a lot easier then reality.

My son loved the Nyokki. It's very cute and he couldn't wait for the grass to grow, so he could give it a "haircut". However, I found it hard to take care of it, you have to put in just the right amount of water, so you don't over water it. And that's exactly what I did, and the plant was ruined.

Just imagine:

1) The Baby Egg absorbs the water.
2) The grass will grow up from the top of the Baby Egg.

Cultivation:

1) Remove plastic lid. The Baby Egg is secured to the plastic base.
2) Slowly pour water into the plastic base until full 80%.
3) After water is absorbed into the egg, water again.
4) The seed will germinate in approximately 3-5 days.
5) Seedlings will be long, use your creativity to shape and trim.

Please recycle other packages separately.

You may wish to transfer the plant along with the eggshell into a regular planting pot or soil.
The eggshell will automatically decompose.

I purchased this for my wife as a valentines gift as she loves the Simpsons and always wanted a Chia Pet/Head.

She likes it and I'm a fan myself. When you get the Chia homer you have to first soak him in water for 24 hours so the planter can absorb water and you do the same for the seeds. You then apply the seeds and within a few days you'll see Homer sprouting!

Quick tip though for anyone wanting to purchase one. You need to keep the homer head filled with water so the seeds can get water, however the seeded area on the very very top front (for us) didn't really absorb water as the water line didn't really reach it. To insure all of your seeds get the water they need keep a small spray bottle near by so whenever you have a chance you can give it a good mist.

We received this for Christmas and it's great the only draw back in that every month or so you have to scrape off the plants and start over again. It comes with three packets of seeds so you have about 3 months supply of seeds, but Joeseph Enterprises who manufactures and distributes the Chia Pets and seeds obviously make their money by selling the seed packets which so far I haven't found a place online to order the seeds so you have to mail in the order form and a check or money order to get more seeds. Shipping is slow so order the seeds well in advance if you want them to arrive in time to replant when the current set dies and needs to be scraped off. Next time around we are gong to try seeds from another source and see if we can get them to last longer and maybe have blooms of some sort.

My main problem with this product was that the grass came in very spotty. I'd say in total I had 20 individual pieces of grass. It did not look anything like the picture.
